Assignment Overview
Students are required to submit a 3000-word appraisal. The essay should include a discussion of the leadership approach required to implement a successful quality improvement project, which the student is required to identify.

Introduction
- Set the scene – introduce your work and how this aims to improve service user experience in your clinical area.
- Explain the topic you are going to be discussing and why? Include whether you chose this based on service user feedback or observation.
- Explain what a Quality Improvement project is and why it is important. Identify the need for quality improvement methodologies and the importance of this in health care.
- Discuss the importance of service user involvement/coproduction in health care when undertaking a quality improvement project.
- Identify the change model that will be utilised and that barriers and enablers to change will be considered.
- What is leadership and why is this important? Identify the leadership approach you have chosen with regards to your project.
Main Body
- Consider your role as a leader in this project e.g. transformational/compassionate leader
- Demonstrate your leadership approach to this project and its implementation. This should be discussed in relation to a change model e.g. Lewin/ NHS Change Model
- Show specific discussions about leadership, including barriers and enablers to change and how you would work with these.
- Critically discuss how this project and your leadership approach will improve patient care and the service.
- You must demonstrate the importance of service-user involvement and co-production in health care and the importance of the MD team.
- Consider strategies such as coaching and self-awareness to help you lead and support others in the change if they act as barriers.
